Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends:
There are many reasons to give to the Alumni Association & Foundation to help support the Academy and the Regiment of Midshipmen. Some include giving back to the institution that provided a free education and gave us our start in our life and our careers and continues to be the backbone of our success; insuring that those who come behind us are taken care of thus keeping the value of our diplomas strong; an affinity for a particular activity or group that made our stay here enjoyable, and many others too numerous to include here. Your support is needed now more than ever.
The new congress that was elected in November of last year has come in to power with a major directive: cut government spending. The Academy has always been prone to underfunding and now it will have to continue once again with minimal support from Washington, DC. Please consider this when you decide how much you can donate. Every amount is appreciated.
The Secretary of Transportation has declared publicly that the Academy must depend on private funding. What is clear is that never before has the Academy so needed the support of the alumni, parents, and friends. Our goal for this year is to raise $2.2 million in unrestricted funds. We will depend on everyone to make that goal a reality.
The Class Reunion gifts for this Homecoming year are always important to reaching our goal. All contributions from Reunion Classes ending in “8” or “3” received by December, 31 2013 will count towards your class gift (December 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013.) Also, Classes ending in "4" or "9" beginning December 1st, 2013 through December 31, 2014 will count towards your class gift for Homecoming 2014.
I thank everyone who has contributed and to those who will be contributing. I am confident that you will be as generous as possible for this year. I thank you on behalf of the Academy and the Regiment of Midshipmen and I hope to see you in my travels or here at the Academy. ACTA NON VERBA!
