A planned gift allows donors to provide a “legacy” to the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation as well as providing the donor with certain tax advantages. Planned gifts will typically benefit the Academy in the future upon the passing of the donor. The contributions also tend to be much larger than what the donor would give on a current basis. A planned gift usually requires more planning, negotiation, and professional council than that of an outright gift. Legal documents most likely will be involved in this type of gift. Most planned gifts are bequests where the USMMA Alumni Foundation is named as a beneficiary in the donor’s will. Trusts are also very popular.
